What is the Ride of Silence? A slow and somber ride held annually on the third Wednesday of May to raise the awareness of motorists, police, city officials, and the general public that cyclists have a legal right to use the public roadways.

The ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of bicyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling. Uniformed bicycle officers from the Richmond Police Department generally escort the ride.
